"The Glass Menagerie"

This week in Sweeney's 102 English class we have been reading, watching, and discussing "The Glass Menagerie". I really enjoyed the whole thing. At first, I was totally against the whole thing because I hate to read anyway, especially when it comes to Literature. However, once I sat down to read it, I started to take an interest in it and all the characters within. I could really feel Laura's pain with her whole mom situation because I have an overbearing mother myself. Another thing I love is the discussions we have in class; even if only three people are discussing and everyone else is talking about food. Sweeney challenges me to think about the story in a much less literal way and I feel it is very beneficial. Our discussions unlock all the hidden messages that I have no chance of ever finding if I just read the story myself. The discussions we have had about "The Glass Menagerie" really allowed me to fall in love with the story and be able to truly relate and put myself inside the story with them. I continue to look forward to more of Sweeney's thinking challenges.

The Struggle to Keep Afloat

We are pretty close to being at the halfway mark of the Spring 2014 semester here at Richard Bland College and I believe the tension is high. With teachers becoming frustrated and students feeling the stress from all their classes, things are getting pretty heated. I myself am really feeling the pressure because I feel as though I have too many things to balance at once, math especially. Statistics with Hudson? Well lets just say that is less than thrilling. I find myself getting lazy as well, which is not exactly a strong attribute to have right now. Currently, I am trying to get myself to pick it up and push through the rest of the semester and I hope everyone else is doing the same! Hopefully when spring break gets here that will be every ones piece of motivation they need to get everything straight before summer. Good luck to everyone and try not to let your ships sink from all the pressure and stress of being a college student.

Interesting week with Sweeney

Well, yet another interesting week in English. Poor Sweeney continues to get patronized for just trying to simply do his job. With the overwhelming amount of females in the class; he does not even stand a chance. There is way too much estrogen and attitude if you ask me. This week we had no class readings so that was a plus. Throughout the week we worked on our papers but did not have class on Friday. I worry that one day Sweeney will snap and it will not be pretty. I do wish they could understand that if the class is quiet we could get out so much faster and be done for the day. Maybe it will just take a few harsh words to set them straight. On Wednesday we were put into groups to work on our papers. While I am sure that papers were not really looked at, our group did an okay job of proofreading. However, I am looking forward to another interesting week with the wonderful English 102 class.

"beyond class" activity gone wrong

Well, it was a normal day of getting ready to cheer on our Richard Bland Statesmen. However something was going to happen that Wednesday that no one could have seen coming. Our cheer coach Megan had asked us to show up to the game forty-five minutes early so we could learn new cheers and a new stunt. Naturally we start with the stunt; this particular stunt we call the "flip stunt" and it involves two girls going up into their own stunts while my stunt group is in between the two. Once we get into position the other two girls are required to pull me up and i perform a back flip. Now these two girls have never done this before so therefore they are quite nervous, which has me a little concerned. I reassure them though that everything will be okay and to just not let go of me. Things do not always go the way you plan. We all got into our positions and I go up but one girl lets go of my arm and my flip does not go all the way around, resulting in my face hitting the floor extremely hard. I was completely dazed and in shock. I did ask to do the stunt again and it hit perfectly! Sadly the damage had already be done. That night resulted in a trip to the emergency room and finding out I had a concussion. I still am feeling the effects and am no longer allowed to stunt until cleared by another doctor.
